The PTC DH ASV combines a retrievable dual bore packer with any ( client supplied) 2 3/8” surface controlled sub surface safety valve . Consequently, the PTC ASV assembly can be tested to ISO 14310 V0. Therefore, unlike most other ASV’s, it can be regarded as part of the well containment barrier.  

 

The assembly is run as an integral part of the completion string and is hydraulically set. During setting there is no movement of the packer relative to the casing string. The packer mandrel, which can be drilled to accept bypass for up to eight 0.25" control lines, is machined from a single steel bar. Consequently, there is no potential leak path from the tubing bore to the annulus via the mandrel below the seal element.

 

Another advantage is that the packer is very easy to retrieve. To release the packer a “Sondex”) cutting tool is deployed on coiled tubing or wireline to cut the packer mandrel directly below the retainer ring. The lower tubing pulls the bottom sub downwards until it contacts the retainer ring, releasing the compression on the seal element and slips. Picking up string weight the slips fully retract and the packer is pulled from the well.
